Latest episode of a series from the Center for Science and the Imagination at Arizona State University examining how video games envision possible futures and build thought-provoking worlds.

Hello, SLSA Friends! I’m writing to share the latest episode of CSI Skill Tree, a series from the Center for Science and the Imagination at Arizona State University examining how video games envision possible futures and build thought-provoking worlds. In this episode, we discuss I Was a Teenage Exocolonist (2022), a marvelously multifaceted narrative-driven game about the ethics of settling another planet, the complexities of growing up, and the difficulties of finding balance in communities that stretch far beyond the human. Our guests are two incredibly insightful writers and editors of speculative fiction: CY Ballard and Troy L. Wiggins.

If you’d like to learn more about the series, please drop me a line! You can watch all of our 18 episodes on this YouTube playlist.

New Book: Cutting Up Books

Explores writing as experiment and destruction as discovery. Blending theory, art, and practice, it introduces textrapolation: a cut-up method that reimagines creativity, authorship, and knowledge-making in the age of artificial unintelligence. Encourages intellectual play, intuition, and embodied experimentation to reanimate writing and thought.
