In the mid 1970s, a group of young artists and musicians at New College of California fueled their creative practices with friendship and the radically experimental education offered by the school.

This exhibition presented the New College Circle’s work in context with the unique institution that prepared them to thrive creatively throughout life. Artists: Carola B. Anderson, David B. Doty, Michael Patrick Lynch, Elaine McKeen, Henry S. Rosenthal, Dennis Subia (NCoC faculty), and Meredith Tromble, with archival photography by Jan Watten.
We gratefully acknowledge catalog support for the exhibition from The Jay DeFeo Foundation. The New College Circle: The Lifelong Impact of a Creative School is now available from Et al. etc. (San Francisco) and Gray Loft Gallery (Oakland).
The New College Circle: The Lifelong Impact of a Creative School is the first published volume covering the art and music scene at New College of California in the 1970s. The authors make the case for creative education as vital preparation for navigating change and discuss the impact of both public and private creative practice.
