The Department of Comparative Studies at The Ohio State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Digital Cultures and Ethnography. The field of specialization is open, and we welcome scholars whose work reflects the department’s commitment to critical, interdisciplinary approaches to culture and society.

We are especially interested in candidates whose research engages with contemporary debates in digital cultures, ethnography, and artificial intelligence. Areas of interest may include (but are not limited to):

• Online communities, genres, and contexts
• Politics of information and misinformation
• Social media and online mythmaking
• Global forms of folklore and performance
• Worldmaking in virtual spaces
• Social, political, and environmental implications of digital technologies and data cultures

Candidates trained in digital ethnography are particularly encouraged to apply. We also value experience in program development, securing external resources, and building interdisciplinary research initiatives.

Position Highlights:

• Develop and maintain a productive research program
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including contributions to Ohio State’s General Education curriculum
• Mentor students and contribute to curricular and program development
• Engage with one or more of the department’s core areas: Folklore Studies, Cultural Studies, Indigenous Studies, Race, Gender, and Ethnic Studies, Literary Studies, Religious Studies, and Science and Technology Studies

Qualifications:

• Required: Ph.D. in hand by August 15, 2026 (ABDs are welcome to apply)
• Preferred: Training in digital ethnography and interdisciplinary engagement with fields represented in the department
