The Humanities Department on the Long Island Campus of New York Institute of Technology (New York Tech) is seeking applicants for an open rank, tenure-track position in Bioethics to start in Fall 2025. The successful candidate will work with pre-health students, conduct innovative research, and contribute to program building, particularly regarding AI and Bioethics, and potentially medical humanities and related subjects. The position is a 3/3 load, with possible release time for scholarship and administrative roles. This scholar may also have the opportunity to pursue leadership positions developing interdisciplinary initiatives in the humanities and sciences and collaborating with the New York Tech College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Biomedical Engineering program in the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences. The position is located at the Long Island Campus, but also may include opportunities for teaching online and on the New York City Campus. LI/NYC/Online.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching introductory and advanced courses in Bioethics and related topics
  • Maintaining an active research agenda
  • School-, department-, and institution-level service

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Bioethics, Philosophy, or a closely related field
  • College-level teaching experience
  • Commitment to undergraduate education and dedication to innovative and effective teaching methods that prepare a diverse student body for future success
  • Potential for developing interdisciplinary initiatives between the sciences and the humanities
  • An active research agenda in Bioethics, with preference for research interest in the ethical dimensions of AI and technology in healthcare and Biomedical Engineering

In addition, exceptional candidates for associate/full professorship should possess:

  • An extensive track record of scholarly publications in Bioethics, or a closely related field
  • A demonstrated ability to collaborate across disciplines
  • A tenured appointment in Bioethics, or a closely related field, at an accredited college or university
