Greetings! At Widener University, one of my research areas is the =
intersection of the humanities, especially literature and writing, with
=
medicine. I've recently taught an interdisciplinary course on =
'Literature and Medicine' that was well received by the Honors students
=
who participated--many of whom being pre-med. Now, I've expanded this =
experimental course into one on 'Humanities and Medicine' that draws =
less on literature but more on art, philosophy, history, etc.

I see this expansion in medical education to include a humanistic =
perspective as an evolution relevant to our society. Would anyone be =
interested in working with me on a panel regarding the evolution of =
medical education to include humanistic perspectives? Regards, Bob

From: Lauren Gunderson
Subject: Science and Theatre Panel

Hello!

My name is Lauren Gunderson, I'm a playwright based in Atlanta that
specializes in science-topics. I've written over twenty plays, most
of which contain thematic or contextual science elements; whether
that be science history, scientists, science theory, etc. I've also
spoken at Science-Art conferences across the country and
internationally. Please see more on my website
www.LaurenGunderson.com or in my book Deepen The Mystery (available
at all online booksellers).

I'm interested in putting together a panel dealing with science and
the stage (perhaps also incorporating fiction, poetry, and
screenplay). Science as fiction vs. Science-Fiction. The benefits of
science in story-telling and the benefits of science for story-telling.

Is anyone else interested in joining this panel? I see a multi-media
panel with excerpts of new work about science (as opposed to another
reading of "Copenhagen" or "Arcadia"), a discussion of process and
relevance, and critical responses from scientists and artists.

I hope to work with you soon!

Lauren

Dear Robert,

A panel for which conference? I manage a listserv for the members of
the
Literature and Medicine affinity group of the American Society of
Bioethics
and Humanities. There's also the NYU Literature and Medicine listserv,
associated with it's useful database (see:
http://endeavor.med.nyu.edu/lit-med/medhum.html). Then there's the
listserv
associated with the Pennsylvania Consortium for Medical Humanities,
moderated by Beth Dolan of Lehigh (bdk3@Lehigh.EDU). These would give
you
further access to potential participants.
