Hi,

In a post-semester grading haze? Can't wait for your quarter to end?
Here's a momentary timewaster that you can feel good about!

I ask you to reply directly to me with an email saying, "Wayne, please
feel free to add any syllabus of mine that you find online to your
database thing, for the benefit of all those who teach courses on
literature, science, technology or related theme(s)."

We have 22 entries in the thriving "Literature & Science Resources on
the Web" database, but that is of course just the last melting tip of
the proverbial iceberg....

You can check it out on the LITSCI-L resource page:
http://www.law.duke.edu/sls/

For those who missed the last posting, or are new to the list, or
have been procrastinating--please note that the deadline for
submission of papers for SLS 2002 is rapidly approaching! Late
submissions will be considered on a space-available basis only.

Announcement-SLS 2002

The 16th Annual Meeting of the Society for Literature and Science
will be held October 10-13, 2002 in Pasadena CA. Pasadena is the
home of world-renowned scientific and cultural institutions (Caltech,
the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the Huntington Library, the Norton
Simon Museum, to name just a few) and is centrally located in the
greater Los Angeles area, with all of its attractions easily
accessible.

A highlight of SLS 2002 will be a plenary event hosted by the
Huntington Library and featuring a presentation by Charles Falco, the
physicist who has been collaborating with David Hockney on his
much-publicized and controversial recent theory concerning use of
lenses by painters.

The meeting will be held at the Pasadena Hilton, close to vibrant Old
Town Pasadena, within walking distance of many outstanding
restaurants, as well as nightlife and shopping. A very attractive
special conference room rate, $109 single or double (well below
standard rates!) has been arranged.

SLS 2002 seeks to strengthen bridges, and build new ones, between the
fields and discourses that comprise the broad range of interests of
its members and attendees. We encourage innovative proposals for
papers, panels, round-table discussions, and any non-traditional
formats. Sessions involving speakers and/or respondents that
transcend disciplinary boundaries are particularly welcome.

Proposals for panels and papers are due June 1, 2002. Details for
submission, conference registration and hotel room reservation may be
found at the conference website, http://SLS-2002.caltech.edu/ The
website also contains a bulletin board to assist people with ideas
for panels or sessions to enlist participants, people planning to
contribute individual papers interested in finding potential
colleagues with papers on related themes, and any other potential
collaborative efforts. Questions or suggestions may also be
addressed to Jay Labinger, jal@its.caltech.edu.
